The Phone Interview
Many organizations begin the hiring process with a technical telephone interview.
LOGISTICS: Try not to use cellular telephones. If possible, use a landline telephone. You want to have clear reception without interruptions.
Make sure the environment you are in is conducive for focusing on the telephone interview.
Eliminate all background noise and possible interruptions.
Have an updated copy of your resume, paper, pen, prepared questions, company literature
and a glass of water in front of you before the interview begins.
Take your energy and enthusiasm up a notch. Since you are on the telephone, the interviewer cannot see your non-verbal communication.
Most importantly, dont try and multi-task during this call. Turn off your computer, your cell phone, etc. Just focus on the call and the conversation at hand.
Close the interview by thanking the interviewer for his/her time. Let the interviewer know that the conversation was informative, and reiterate your interest in the opportunity.
Ask about next steps in the process.
Assessments/Questionnaires/On-line Tests
Anyone who has been in the job hunt, passively or aggressively, knows companies have really begun to use technology to assist in the hiring process.
Here are the basicsassessments measure job fit over time, not intelligence. Essentially, companies benchmark their top performers by having them take assessments. All future applicants take the same assessments. Their responses indicate a likelihood of success, or lack thereof.
Some companies have decided to use assessments as a required part of their process, while others use them only as a tool in the hiring process.
A Technical Questionnaire will dig into the skills the hiring manager wants to focus on to determine the depth and range of particular skills. Cheating, or using Google to answer questions that you dont know wont do you any favors in the long run. If you are lacking a particular skill it is best to answer honestly but also to expand on how you would find the answer if you were on the job, if the form gives you the option to expand your answer.
Regardless, the best thing you can do to prepare is to focus and put yourself into the position you are applying for. Some assessments are situational using experiences from your past employment. Choose one position that is most similar to the one you are currently applying for and use that one as a reference point.
Make sure when you take the assessment you have set aside time to do so. It is important to finish these in one sitting and without distractions or interruptions.
Dont underestimate the importance of the assessment!
The Person-to-Person Interview
Introduction
The interviewer may take this time to engage in small talk to help break the ice and to allow you to relax. Take this time to get to know a little bit about them as well. Any question they ask is fair game for you to ask them.
Interviewer's Questions
This will be the main focus of the interview. It is during this time that your prep work for the interview will be essential. Your research on the company and its structure will be translated during the interview.
The interviewer will likely ask questions related to your career goals, current and past positions, your motivation, the qualities you possess, activities for which you have participated that demonstrate initiative, why you would be a strong candidate for this position and why you would be an asset to their organization.
Your Questions
Interviewers often expect strong candidates to have questions for them. This will show the interviewer your interest level and will allow you to demonstrate your communication skills.
Closing
Toward the end of the interview, the interviewer will probably ask if you have any additional questions. This is the time to ask any of your questions that were not covered in the previous discussion. It is also the appropriate time to ask what the next steps are in the interview process, as well as when you can expect to hear from the interviewer. Finally, thank the interviewer for his/her time to convey your continued interest.
KE Y REASONS FROM HIRING MANAGERS WHY A CANDIDATE WAS NOT ASKED BACK FOR A 2nd INTERVIEW:
Prior to the Interview
Preparation
Verify the exact location of the interview and the interviewers name and title, including pronunciation.
Ask for directions or visit Google Maps to plan your route. Have a backup route planned, as well, just in case there is traffic or unforeseen circumstances that might delay your arrival.
Dressing for the Interview
Image is very important.
Interview the Company
While the company is interviewing you, dont forget that you, too, are interviewing the company.
Arrival
Late arrival for a job interview will give the interviewer the perception that you are disorganized and not punctual. Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled interview time.

Lori Joy Chief Talent Curator
Lori founded 32 Solutions Ltd on the premise that finding good talent is not as simple as taking out an ad on a job board. Effective recruiting goes beyond producing a pile of resumes. Spending time with companies to get to know their culture, their perks, their growing pains and what makes them tick, are some of the cornerstone reasons of why 32 Solutions Ltd came to be.
Before 32 Solutions Ltd, Lori recruited for agencies working with small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies as well as internal recruitment for Sun Microsystems. Her 13 previous years in sales and recruiting for IT roles gives her a unique perspective and a solid network for her business.
Loris reality of being an entrepreneur came more out of necessity than a life-long dream. Wanting to do business with great companies, where she would want to be employed herself, coupled with creating a fun, flexible work environment for others made it all happen.
Lori has a BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado. After work, she spends her time anywhere outside with her dog, Villain, eating fantastic food as often as possible, planning her next travel adventure.
Kim Vournas Director of Recruitment
Kim Vournas has an affinity for recruiting with more than eight years of experience doing so. Kim started her professional career as an accountant more than 14 years ago, but decided people rather than numbers were her passion. In 2003, she traded in her debits and credits for a recruiting role at Resources Global Professionals where she spent 8 years doing full lifecycle recruiting for Financial, Supply Chain, Human Capital and IT consulting professionals.
Kim's broad knowledge of recruiting professionals across various industries and functions has brought her great success in both consulting and direct-hire placement recruiting.
She has a passion for working with candidates getting to know their background and skillset and matching them with the right job, which plays in nicely to her role at 32 Solutions Ltd.
As the VP of Visionary Recruitment for 32 Solutions Ltd, Kim is responsible for recruiting IT and Sales professionals throughout the Denver Metro and Front Range areas.
When not indulging in her favorite pastime recruiting, Kim enjoys spending time with her daughter Morgyn Alise, cooking and watching sports. A Southern California native, Kim spends a lot of time visiting her family and friends especially in the winter months.
Kim holds a bachelors degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Tari Sicairos de Vomaske Recruiter Extraordinaire
Tari started recruiting for her own company when she needed to find talented people for her clients. She then joined Resources Global Professionals in 2008 where she became a recruiting coordinator and was able to learn the skills to source potential candidates for opportunities across multiple service lines, supported multiple Directors of Recruiting and worked closely with the Client Service Directors to identify candidates. Since then, she has helped numerous recruitment efforts for many companies across various industries and functional areas.
Finding great talent can be like the preverbal needle in a haystack and Tari is fervent about helping hiring managers attract, hire and keep the best talent for their needs. Tari has what it takes to be a good recruiter because she likes the win of the right person in the right role and she can make it happen.
Taris role at 32 Solutions focuses on sourcing candidates, maintaining the candidate database and fine tuning her recruiting skills.
In her spare time she works on her dog treat business (www.DoYouWannaTreat.com) and contributes to animal rescues across the country. Her friends and family know that her animals are her kids and that she tries to make a difference in every animals life. She once tried to save a dog from the side of the road until she realized that it wasnt a dog at all, it was a coyote!
